Why is SEO such a hot topic in the blogging world? Because good SEO is the only way Google will rank your blog posts and let’s face it, Google is king when it comes to search engines. The problem with your blog ranking high in a Google search is the oh so secret algorithm that no one can seem to figure out. If you ask 50 people what is good SEO, you’ll get 50 different answers.

Nevertheless, there are some good practices that you should implement in order to set up your blog for search engine success. One good practice is to source SEO rich content and that’s what we’re going to chat about in this post.

How to Create SEO Content for Blogging

Write your post titles with the Google searcher in mind. For instance, someone searching for the best email marketing program would type in something like “what is the best email marketing program?”.

So you would write your post title with this is mind and it would look something like “The Best Email Marketing Programs for Blogging”. This is called long-tail keywords.

Overloading your posts with a bunch of keywords will not fly too well with Google anymore. Especially if the posts don’t flow naturally. Here it is directly from Google.

"Keyword stuffing' refers to the practice of loading a website with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in Google search results. Often these keywords appear in a list or group, or out of context (not as natural prose). Filling pages with keywords or numbers result in a negative user experience, and can harm your site's ranking."

Writing your posts with the user in mind will give you a much better chance of ranking with Google than writing content filled with keywords that don’t make sense. Focus on addressing your readers issues in a focused, well thought out blog post and your posts will attract more and more readers. Planning your posts out from the outset helps with SEO.

How to Choose Long-Tailed Keywords

The best way to find relevant keywords is to use Google Keyword Planner. Keep in mind that you have to have a paid Adsense account to use the planner.

If you have an account you can use this tool to search for phrases that will rank high in search results with low competition. The less competition, the better. If you need a free tool, The HOTH is another great keyword search tool.

Piggyback Trending Topics

It’s good to keep up with the trends in your industry in order to see what is popular at any given time. If your blog is about fashion and it’s NY Fashion week, you know that all the fashion shows are going to be a trending topic.

This is a great opportunity to write a few posts about what’s trending on the runways or a related topic. This will drive traffic to your site and increase your search ranking and your SEO will benefit.

You can keep up with popular searches by signing up with Google Trends. You can tailor the search to specific topics and receive related news right in your inbox.  Quoro is also a good place to source questions that need to be answered within your niche.

Writing Good Content for SEO

Consistently creating content that addresses your reader's needs is the best way to have good SEO. Google wants to provide its users with the most relevant content for their search request. They have systems in place to detect when you are trying to beat the system.

Trust me when I say you don’t want to be penalized by the king of search engines.Quality content consists of a long-tail title, focused introduction, and straight to the point body with at least 1,000 words. Follow the formula and you will be fine. Need help formatting your posts for good SEO? Get your free checklist and blog post template below.
